About Exam:

Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) is located in Puducherry and conducts a separate entrance test for admission to its MBBS course. JIPMER is an institute of national importance. It is managed by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. It has a total of 100 seats in its MBBS course and out of these admission to 82 seats is through JIPMER entrance. Rest 18 seats are through nomination by Government of India and are are selected by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi.

Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research is one of the oldest medical institutes in India established by French Government as “Ecole de Medicine de Pondichery” in 1823. In 1956 it was overtaken by Government of India and subsequently renamed as Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research. JIPMER has a large residential campus with 195 acres of land. It has all modern facilities and infrastructure along with highly skilled and experienced faculty.

Eligibility Criteria:

Essential: Applicant must be a resident Indian national. Applicant should have studied and completed their course in the schools located in India in the preceding two years. Applicant should have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete the age on or before 31.10.2012

Educational: Applicant should have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Botany/Zoology with at least 50% aggregate marks in PCB for unreserved category (40% for SC/ST/OBC and a pass in English). Those who are appearing for class 12th exams in 2011 can also apply.

Entrance examination: JIPMER uses paper-based test administration (MCQ) for merit listing the candidates for the above admissions. Candidate has to appear for entrance examination to be conducted by JIPMER in the first week of June 2012

Reservation of seats :

Total seats for MBBS - 100 seats
82 seats filled through on basis of JIPMER 2012 score
18 seats filled through Government of India Nominees

EXAMINATION CENTRES:

Candidate can opt for one of the following centres for the entrance examination: Ahmedabad, Bangaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Nagpur, New Delhi, Puducherry and Thiruvananthapuram
