Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is a young and vibrant university that is attracting the attention of the student community, the academia and the industry alike.
Amrita School of Medicine (ASM), Kochi was founded in the year 2002 by Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, Amma. The school offers the best education in an environment that supports the practice of new skills as well as an individual student's capacity to learn and serve. A unique emphasis on understanding and compassion in every action is the focal point, and this nurtures the student's intellectual and personal growth.
The university, head-quartered at Ettimadai in Coimbatore, is one of the youngest groups of educational institutions in India to have been granted university status. The university is accredited with 'A' Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
The Health Sciences campus today occupies a land area of 93.32 acres. In 2003, when the university came into being, the land area was approximately 40 acres. The built-up area has also grown in a similar manner from 90,934 sq.m. in 2003 to 2,83,530 sq.m. in 2008.
Amrita's Kochi campus includes the Amrita School of Arts and Sciences in addition to the Health Sciences campus. This School occupies a land area of 3.32 acres and has a total built-up area of 6900 sq.m.
Academic Facilities for Students
Academic facilities for students include computerized and fully-equipped seminar halls, e-learning studios with satellite connectivity, central and departmental libraries and computer labs that provide access to the internet, email and intranet.
The enterprise-level, indigenously developed Amrita University Management System (AUMS) is used for maintaining academic records of students.
