Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU
Institute of Medical Sciences Banaras Hindu University (IMS BHU) came into being as College of Medical Sciences in the year 1960. Initially, it had only 9 Departments of Modern Medicine. In 1971, the college was upgraded as Institute of Medical Sciences. Presently, the Institute has 33 Departments of Modern Medicine including 10 Departments of Super-specialities and 8 Departments of Ayurveda.
Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU is perhaps the only institute in India, which offers courses quality education both in the Modern Medicine and Ayurveda. The institute is located within the University premises, which gives opportunity for research interactions with well equipped centres of excellence in the University. Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU is recognized by the Medical Council of India.

How To Get Into Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU?
Undergraduate:
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS): Admission is done on the basis of candidate’s performance in the entrance examination.
Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery (BAMS): Admission is done on the basis of merit obtained by the candidate in the entrance examination.
Diploma:
M D / M S - Admission is done on the basis of the entrance test.
M D / M S (Ayurveda) - Admission is done on the basis of candidate’s performance in the entrance test.
D M / M Ch - Admission is done on the basis of candidate’s performance in all India competitive entrance examination conducted by the University.
MDS - Admission is done on the basis of candidate’s performance in the entrance exam.
How Many Seats?
M.B.B.S. (63 seats): General - 42; OBC – 7; SC – 9 and ST – 5; BDS
B.Pharm. (28 Seats each):General – 19; OBC – 3; SC – 4 and ST – 2
BAMS (57 seats) : General – 36; Foreign National – 3; OBC –6 ,SC – 8 and ST-4
B.Pharm. (Ay.) (Paid seats, 30): General – 15; OBC – 8; SC – 5 and ST – 2.
Three percent seats are reserved for physically challenged candidates in all the categories of the above courses.
