CMC Vellore (Christian Medical College Vellore) is one of the premier healthcare institutions in India. This 2234 bed multi-specialty, tertiary care teaching hospital provides highest quality of medical care. Christian Medical College Vellore's origin can be traced to 1918 when Dr.Ida Scudder established a Medical School for women. The school was upgraded to a College in 1942 and became co-educational in 1947.
CMC Vellore has been given a five star rating by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission, in recognition of its world-class medical education and health care. The institute is affiliated to Dr M G R Medical University in Tamil Nadu. CMC Vellore has also been categorized as a super-speciality teaching hospital of the highest quality and assigned the H1 grading by the Investment Information and Credit Rating Agency (ICRA) Ltd.

Facilities
The library of CMC is well equipped and it caters to the educational needs of the students. A faculty -student centre is set up so that there is greater interaction between faculty and students. The centre is equipped with TV, Indoor games, magazine and a place to gather and chat. Students can also play basketball, tennis, badminton, volleyball, hockey cricket, football athletics while in the college.
CMC is owned and administered by the Christian Medical College Vellore Association. This association is made up of 54 churches and other Christian organizations engaged in medical health care activities. CMC is affiliated to Dr. MGR Medical University
How to get into Christian Medical College?
Undergraduate:
Admission is done on the basis of the merit obtained by the candidate in the entrance exam and interview.
Post Graduate:
Admission is done on the basis of the candidate’s performance in the entrance exam and interview.
How Many Seats?
The college admits only 60 students a year for its undergraduate programme; it boasts a student-teacher ratio of 12:1. Of the 60 seats, 50 are reserved for Christian minorities; and of the remaining seats, two are reserved for the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories, and one is reserved for a government nominee
