DEPT OF PREVENTIVE & COMMUNITY DENTISTRY
With the help of various social service and voluntary organizations, we conduct regular rural dental treatment camps. At these camps routine dental treatments like extractions, restorations, and oral prophylaxis are done and patients requiring specialized treatment are referred to the college. Educative lectures on oral health with the help of charts, models, audio-visual aids are routinely given at the camps. Various checkup and screening camps are also conducted in the rural areas. Department also conducts epidemiological survey at some places with the objective of collecting information regarding oral disease status and treatment needs of local population.
DEPT OF PERIODONTICS
The department deals with the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal diseases and also rehabilitation of surrounding structures of teeth. In India 80% of the adult population suffers from gum diseases and related problems, they loose their teeth at an early age. Periodontal diseases compounded with lack of awareness and misconceptions aggravates this problem Even chewing habits, poor oral hygiene contributes to this particular problem. This speciality does the early diagnosis of gum diseases and by early intervention prevents further deterioration of the supporting structures of the teeth.
If the disease is in the advanced stage treatment is carried out to restore the normal health of supporting structures of teeth. Various surgical and non surgical methods are used in this process. Supra & Subgingival scaling, Root planing, Curettage, Gingivectomy, Gingivoplasty, Frenectomy & Pocket elimination therapies, and other Mucogingival Surgeries are done in the department. The advanced techniques are bone grafts, soft tissue grafts, alloplastic materials as bone grafts and guided tissue regeneration. Unhealthy periodontal tissues with persistent infection can cause diseases elsewhere in the body or can aggravate an existing systemic disease. It can also cause mobility of teeth along with bleeding and purulent discharge from gums causing early loss of the involved tooth. So a healthy supporting structure of teeth is the key factor not only for a healthy dentition but also for a healthy life.
