It was great effort of holy union of powerful personalities of Sri L.P. Shahi (the then cabinet minister), Prof S.M Nawab (surgeon of national fame) and Sri Raghunath Pandey, along with full support from Sri Lalit Narayan Mishra (the then union minister) and co-operation from members of VAISHALI SHIKSHA PRATISTHAN which led to a sequence of events as a result of which foundation of solitary medical college in ‘Tirhut Pramandal’ was laid.
The college ‘Sri Krishna Medical College’ was born on the auspicious day of 11th MAY 1970 and was inaugurated by Late Sri Daroga Pd. Rai (the then CM of Bihar). From the time of its inauguration in 1970 the college used to run in S.K.J Law College on a temporary basis. In 1973 the college was shifted to its present place that is where we all are studying. For a medical college to run a hospital is necessary The hospital was started by late Prof. S.M NAWAB (1st principal) in a rented house in front S.K.J Law College. Its present infrastructure (college and hospital) was brought up by secretary of SKMCH; Late Sri Raghunath Pandey over a period of two & half years.
In the year 1972 university/govt. officials and committees inspected the college. The university allowed the first MBBS examination in the middle of 1972 in the same setup. In 1976 MCI visited the institution and granted temporary recognition. In this year itself final year MBBS examination of the first batch was held.
This campus which spread over an area of 125 acres was transferred to its present site when Cabinet Minister Sri Uma Shankar Dixit laid the foundation stone of the college, first hostel and a 200 bedded hospital. The construction and development work of the institution was supported by donated amounts from the students and other eminent people. Agricultural practices were also taken up in the campus; including banana, wheat and sugarcane. The income from these also supported the upbringing of the college. A plantlet in 1970 has now grown up into a big tree- a full fledged medical college with a 600 bedded hospital.
Today, this baby institution of early 70’s stands tall and sets up a landmark in contributing significantly to various health services to the land of its birth and periphery. The campus being situated on the edge of a national highway makes it easily accessible to people, well supported by ring service of city buses and various other means of conveyance. The pharmaceuticals have been well crafted in to suit the needs of patients who do not need to wander for their medical requirements.
At present the hospital is well equipped to cater the various diagnostic (CT, USG etc) and therapeutic needs (free medicines, well equipped OT) of the patients who are increasingly becoming aware of their health needs as is reflected by their enthusiastic inflow into the hospital.
